| Academics | The focus of the short-term program in Madrid is to improve the student's proficiency in Spanish and to provide an introduction to Spanish culture and everyday life. |
| Courses | Students take one unit of intensive Spanish language, one Spanish culture course and one Spanish conversation course. All courses that Kalamazoo students take at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija have been specially designed for international students. Students receive 2 units of Spanish for the Spanish language and the Spanish conversation courses and 1 unit Social Science for the Spanish Culture course. Students who are particularly weak in Spanish (as indicated by language placement test results and at the discretion of the Resident Director) will be required to attend additional tutorials as part of their Spanish course in order to sucessfully complete the other courses.Cultures Credit: The following course has been pre-approved as fulfilling the "cultures" requirement: Spanish Culture (SOC SCI). Please see the Study Abroad Handbook regarding instructions for petitioning for "cultures" credit for other courses. |
| Credits | Students must enroll in the equivalent of 3 K-Units of credit. Students may not overload or underload. Grades from all study abroad courses will appear on the Kalamazoo transcript but are not included in the Kalamazoo grade point average. The transcript will list the title of the course, the appropriate discipline, and a translation of the local grade into the Kalamazoo "A, B, C" grading system. Students must earn the equivalent of a "C" in the local grading system to receive credit for course work completed abroad. Consult the Study Abroad Handbook and the college catalogue for additional information. All course work must be completed and turned in before the end of the academic program or no credit will be given. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. |
