Center for International Programs : Applying

The Application Process

Once you've thought about your goals and motivations for studying abroad and considered what kind of program you're seeking (and why), you're ready to begin the application process.

* Applications for spring Short-Term programs (Bonn, Trinidad, Madrid, and Strasbourg) should be available beginning October 8. Applications for Winter Short-term program in Oaxaca is avaiable beginning first week of the fall quarter.
* Applications for Long- and Extended-Term programs should be available beginning November 15.
* Program descriptions can be picked up at any time and are available on the web.

Before you apply, it is important to make sure that you have read the program description sheet carefully, to ensure that you meet all of the eligibility requirements. To be eligible for study abroad you must:

* Have Junior standing (17 K-units) by the time you part for long or extended term programs
* Have Sophomore standing by the time you depart for spring programs
* Have the required GPA and maintain it prior to departure
* Have met the specific program requirements where applicable (language level, courses, etc.)
* Apply for a passport (if you already have a passport, it must be valid for 6 months beyond the end of your study abroad program)
* Be in good academic and social standing
* Be able to achieve the necessary language requirement by the time you depart

All study abroad programs have specific eligibility requirements, and selection is based upon a review of the study abroad application, letters of recommendation, all college-level transcripts, and the fulfillment of all requirements at the time of application. An interview may be required for certain programs, and at the discretion of the Director of the Center for International Programs. Please note that students may only apply to study abroad programs through the Center for International Programs and can only apply to one program at a time. If a student is not admitted into their first choice program, the Center for International Programs will assist students in applying for another program.

We advise you to review the Kalamazoo Study Abroad Handbook 2008-2009 for more specific information regarding policies, transfer of credit, health guidelines, and intercultural information.

When are applications due?
