Externships are opportunities to explore a career interest area hands-on. They offer many of the benefits of an internship, but they last 1-4 weeks instead of 10 or more. Benefits include:

• Access to professionals in your field of interest
• Opportunity to complete a short-term focus project
• First-hand experience in your field of interest
• Enhancing your professional and personal skills
• Meeting your individual learning goals
• Reflecting on outcomes and future options
• Networking (contacts, references)

A special benefit of the Kalamazoo College Discovery Externship is the homestay. Homestays (usually with "K" alumni) not only provide housing, they provide mentoring and time for informal discussion of your field of interest with a professional in that field.
