  When a member of the Kalamazoo College community experiences
Policy: a significant life event - birth, illness, death - the Assistant to the
  President should be immediately informed. S/he will determine
  whether it is appropriate to send flowers. Please provide the  
  following information:  
  Name of the individual  
  Relationship to the College  
  Nature of the event  
  Date of the event  
  Place of the event and any related arrangements (hospital or
  funeral home - name, address or telephone number)  
  Contact name, address and telephpone number  
   
  The Assistant to the President coordinates all employee recognition
  under the following guidelines:  
  1. Upon death of an employee or their immediate family member
  (spouse, parent, sibling, child), the College will send a floral parent, child, sibling), the College will send a floral
  arrangement. Alternatively, a memorial contribution may be made.
  2. The birth or adoption of a child to/by a faculty or staff member
  will be recognized with a floral arrangement.  
  3. Hospitalization, illness, or injury will be similarly acknowledged.
   
  The cost of the arrangement or gift will be limited to $50. Floral
  arrangements will be purchased from VanderSalm's Flower Shop and
  gifts through the Kalamazoo College Bookstore. Additional College
  funds may not be used by academic and administrative departments
  for the purchase of flowers, gifts and memorial contributions. Exceptions
  to this policy require prior approval of a member of the President's
  Advisory Council.
