Teach Asia:
Summer Institute for Secondary School Teachers
Program information:
The Summer Institute
is an intensive week-long seminar for secondary school teachers to be
held at Kalamazoo College. The Institute is designed to deepen an understanding
of Asia and its main issues, and to improve teaching methods so that
secondary school students learn more effectively about the multiple
dimensions of Asian history, politics, and society, and other issues.
It is the purpose of the Institute to build a community and network
for Asian studies throughout Michigan and surrounding states in the
Midwest.
The Summer Institute
will be taught by a faculty member who specializes in Asian Studies. The
topics and themes vary from year to year and will
be taught from an interdisciplinary perspective. During the course of
the week, teachers will be aided in developing a course module to incorporate
into their current courses in their respective schools.
