Asia:
Summer Institute for High School Students
Program information:
This is a demanding
course of learning. Students will study one aspect of Asia, to be determined
by the course instructor each year. Topics may include the people, art,
language, culture, history, religion, or literature of the region. Students
will study about Asia with Kalamazoo College faculty, staff, and students.
The course begins on campus and continues with two weeks in East or
Southeast Asia.
Who is eligible:
We invite high school
students who are currently sophomores and juniors to
apply for the program. No experience abroad is necessary. The Freeman
Foundation grant covers all room, board, and travel expenses on-campus
and in Asia, with the exception of a $500 participation fee, travel
costs to and from Kalamazoo College, and incidental expenses as noted
in the program description.

must include a completed application form, a high school transcript,
and two completed recommendation forms from a teacher and a school
counselor (to be sent directly to the Center for Asian Studies).
Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2004 and continue
