Introduction
Founded in the Spring of 2002 with the support of a Freeman Foundation Grant, Kalamazoo College's Center for Asian Studies is devoted to the study and understanding of Asia, with a special focus on China and Japan, two of the most important countries in the world. The establishment of the center continues, and further strengthens Kalamazoo College's long tradition and leadership in the internationalization of higher education in a liberal arts setting.

The Center currently sponsors four major programs each year:

  • a lecture series
  • a colloquium series
  • a series of faculty-led, on-site studies courses
  • summer outreach programs for high school teachers and students from Michigan and the Midwest
  • a scholar-in-residence program
