Philosophy of the Writing Center
The Writing Center staff believe that anyone can learn how to
write well. We also believe that writing is a skill that
continues to develop over a lifetime, and that even accomplished
writers can improve their writing. Keeping these basic
beliefs in mind, Writing Center staff are careful to respect
the innate intelligence of the writer and to focus their attention
on the writer rather than on the paper. We view the paper
as a sample of the student's writing with which to point out
ways for the student to improve as a writer. We respect
the student's ideas and the student's time.
About the Writing Center
The Writing Center is open Sunday through Thursday evenings
for any student who would like feedback on a paper; a portion
of a SIP; an application for study abroad, medical school
or graduate school; a piece of creative writing; a presentation
outline--whatever you're writing. Student writing consultants
can work with you at any stage of the writing process--from
rough draft to the final copy. It doesn't take long
to improve your writing. Sessions last from 10-30 minutes.
The Writing Center
is located in the Academic Resource Center, Upjohn Library
Commons, Room 310. You can just walk-in,
or make an appointment by emailing us at WritingCenter@kzoo.edu.
When you email us for an appointment, be sure to tell us the
date and time you would like to come and whether you have
a writing consultant preference. We'll email you back
to confirm.
