Lillian Anderson Arboretum :

Arb Day!
This year marked the first annual Arb Day for new K College students. As part of their introduction to K, First Years were offered guided tours of the Lillian Anderson Arboretum. The event was organized by Jenna Hertz, President of EnvOrg. Jenna recruited 15 dedicated team leaders who shared their knowledge and affection for the Arb with 45 First Year students. Leaders guided small groups of students around some of the 4 miles of Arboretum trails with the object of making the newcomers feel welcome and comfortable in their own small pocket of wilderness. They encouraged students "to reflect on their place in nature: how they can connect to it, use it, find their own place within it". In order to stimulate discussion and reflection Jenna assembled a remarkable collection of quotations on nature and spirituality which should serve as a guide and inspiration to everyone.

Arboretum Director John Fraser briefly outlined the history of the Arb and also reflected on the obligation of the K community to steward this wonderful resource. (Volunteers are always welcome!)

The event was a great success thanks to the hard work of Jenna and her Team Leaders. Jenna also wished to thank Dr. Zaide Pixley, Dean of the First Year & Advising for her invaluable assistance.
