Lillian Anderson
Arboretum :
Nella Langeland
(Words written by Nella Langeland on the occasion of the memorial service for Lillian B. Anderson, August 24th, 2001)
I knew Lillian for my entire life. I grew up next door to her and there was a well-worn footpath from our house to hers. Once, when I was two years old, she pulled me from the small fishpond in her garden that I had fallen into. That was the first of many times that Lillian gave me the helping hand that I needed. For the past 25 years, I have had the pleasure of living in the farmhouse that Lillian called home for over 70 years. Her gardens still grow there. My friendship with Lillian has formed many of my values and my appreciation of natural beauty. She instilled in me an interest in beauty and flowers and all sorts of things…things that seem like they have always been part of my life. I feel very fortunate to have had Lillian in my life and I will always miss her. |
