Absence from Commencement
All seniors are expected to participate in the Commencement ceremony. If unable to attend the ceremony, the Registrar must be informed as soon as possible at 269-337-7204 . The line-up is configured by everyone’s participation, so it is very important to inform the registrar of your absence.
Baccalaureate is a non-denominational service with student and faculty speakers and musical performances held on Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 p.m. Stetson Chapel is consistently “almost full” for this service, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. A sound system will be set up outside of the chapel for overflow. Some guests choose to bring a blanket and relax on the lawn of the chapel. It is a very pleasant way to listen to the service.
Graduating seniors, their families and guests are invited to purchase boxed lunches to enjoy on campus prior to Commencement. Dining on campus is convenient and will help you avoid any parking difficulties prior to the ceremony. Place an order with Creative Dining by Saturday, June 4 for your boxed lunches.
For easier maneuvering around campus visit our campus map.
The Commencement ceremony will take place outside on the campus quadrangle. Tickets are not required for the outdoor ceremony, and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Plenty of chairs will be available on the lower quad to accommodate family and friends. Open seating will also be available on the grass of the upper quad. Guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets as long as they do not obstruct the view for other guests. The rain location will be in the Anderson Athletic Center and will require tickets. Seniors will each receive five rain tickets at Senior Rehearsal, which will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 4:00 p.m. For all of your relatives and friends that can′t make the trip to Kalamazoo, tell them to pull up the Kalamazoo College Commencement webpage on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. to watch the Commencement ceremony LIVE! The ceremony lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours ending around 3:30 p.m.
The College has hired Graduation Foto to take a photo of your senior as he/she accepts his/her diploma and as he/she exits the stage. In the spring you will receive information about ordering keepsake prints.
Seniors must attend Commencement rehearsal in Stetson Chapel on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. Five rain tickets per senior will be distributed at rehearsal. Departmental receptions will be held in various locations throughout campus on Saturday, June 11 between the hours of 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Departmental receptions are a great time to meet professors and the people with whom your senior has studied for the last four years.
Diploma frames are available from the Kalamazoo College Bookstore.
A Grad Fair was held in April. Seniors had the chance to order their cap and gown, graduation announcements, and other commemorative items. Please contact bookstore personnel at 269-337-7318 if you have any questions.

Location and Inclement Weather
The Commencement ceremony will take place on the campus quadrangle, where tickets will not be required for entry. If inclement weather forces Commencement indoors, the ceremony will take place in Anderson Athletic Center, where tickets will be required for entry. Each senior will receive five tickets for an indoor ceremony in Anderson Athletic Center, and overflow viewing for guests without tickets will be available in Dalton Theatre.
OrangeZest is the College’s annual senior memory book. It is a record of each graduating class’ four years at K. To view an example of OrangeZest from 2015, go to the yearbook page. After graduation you will be able to view an electronic copy and have the option to purchase a printed copy.
In the event of rain, Commencement will be held in Anderson Athletic Center, and each family will have five tickets to that ceremony. Due to space limitations in the event of an indoor ceremony, we must limit the tickets to five per senior. Remind your senior to give you their tickets before they line up for the ceremony! No extra tickets will be issued by the College for any reason. Overflow seating with a live video feed will be available in Dalton Theatre for guests without tickets.
Each senior will receive five tickets for use at Anderson Athletic Center in the event of an indoor ceremony. These will be distributed at the Senior Rehearsal.
Residence Hall Check-out
Residence halls will remain open for seniors until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 12.
A Senior Awards ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 in Stetson Chapel. Not every senior receives an award. Notifications will be sent to your senior in early June. Please check with your senior to see if they will receive an award, or be recognized for an academic accomplishment during the program. If you have any questions about the Senior Awards ceremony, please contact the Offices of the President and Provost at 269-337-7158.
As part of the College’s climate commitment initiative and effort to reduce the consumption of bottled water on campus, we encourage guests to bring reusable bottles to fill at the various water stations that will be available around the Quad.
