ACADEMIC ADVISING : ADVISING NOTES & TIPS

OFF-CAMPUS TRANSFER POLICIES

Anthropology/Sociology
No more than one of the minimal ten courses required for the major may be taken off-campus.

Art and Art History
Students who major in Studio Art, Art History or Art and Art History can use only 3 units of transfer, dual enrollment, AP and credits from study abroad combined to count toward their major. Only 2 units can be used to count toward their major from Study Abroad. All units must be approved in consultation with the department faculty.
Students who minor in Studio Art, Art History or Art and Art History can use only 2 units of transfer, dual enrollment, AP and credits from study abroad combined to count toward their minor. Only 1 unit from study abroad can be used to count toward their minor from Study Abroad. All units must be approved in consultation with the department faculty.

Biology
The biology department will accept for credit in the major: a maximum of one unit from sources outside the department (e.g. one AP credit if score on the Biology AP exam is 4 or 5, one credit from dual enrollment, or one credit from Study Abroad).
The biology department will accept for credit in the minor: a maximum of one unit from sources outside the department (e.g. one AP credit if score on the Biology AP exam is 4 or 5, one credit for dual enrollment, or one credit from study abroad.

Classical Studies
Three units of off-campus credit; no more than two units from study abroad.

Computer Science
A maximum of three (3) units of off-campus credit (AP, study abroad, transfer, etc.) may be applied toward the major. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by prior approval of the department.

Economics
Two units of off-campus credit towards the major. The department strongly discourages students from taking courses in the core requirements for the major from other institutions.

English
None at this time.

German
Three unit of off-campus credit; no more than two units from study abroad.

History

Mathematics
A maximum of three (3) units of off-campus credit (AP, study abroad, transfer, etc.) may be applied toward the major. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by prior approval of the department.
A maximum of two (2) units of off-campus credit (AP, study abroad, transfer, etc.) may be applied toward the minor. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by prior approval of the department.

Music
A maximum total of 2 units from off-campus toward the major.

Physics
Two units of off-campus credit toward the major or minor.

Political Science
One unit of off-campus credit toward the major or minor; this must not be a required course nor a course that the department offers on a regular basis. Students must formally petition the department for approval of any off-campus credit to count toward the major or minor.

Psychology
Up to 4 courses to count towards the psychology major; the department will evaluate each course according to the content, challenge, and overall reputation of the host institution.

Religion
One unit of off-campus credit toward the major.

Romance Languages
Three units of off-campus credit toward the major; no more than two units from study abroad.

Theatre Arts
With the exception of the two dramatic literatures, all courses for the theatre arts major must be taken on campus.
