ACADEMIC ADVISING : CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL
PROGRAMS
GENERAL INFORMATION
Mission Statement
In support of the Kalamazoo College
mission to "prepare its graduates to better understand,
live successfully within, and provide enlightened leadership
to a richly diverse and increasingly complex world,"
the Center for International Programs provides experiential
opportunities in international education through study abroad,
university exchange programs, and services for international
students and scholars in collaboration with our international
partners. As a leader in education abroad, the Center also
advocates for international experiential education in local,
regional, national and international forums.
Kalamazoo College, through the Center for
International Programs, is a member of NAFSA: Association
of International Educators, the Institute for International
Education (IIE), the Council for International Educational
Exchange (CIEE), and the Association of International Education
Administrators (AIEA), among other organizations. The Center
adheres to the NAFSA: AIE Code of Ethics and Statement of
Principles in International Educational Exchange and also
supports the "Responsible Study Abroad: Health and Safety
Guidelines" developed by the Interorganizational Task
Force on Safety and Responsibility in Study Abroad.
Study Abroad Application
Application to and acceptance into the study abroad program
is separate from admission to the College. Participation in
study abroad at Kalamazoo College requires that students meet
certain expectations and eligibility criteria as well as exercise
responsible judgment and behavior. Students are required to
obtain approval in advance for participation in study abroad
programs through application to the Center for International
Programs. The Center determines which study abroad programs
qualify for transfer of credit back to the College and for
transfer of Kalamazoo College financial assistance and/or
scholarships. Participants are assigned to specific programs
based upon student qualifications, program capacities, and
other conditions deemed relevant by the Director. When students
accept their admission to the study abroad program, they agree
to abide by the policies and regulations set forth in the
Study Abroad Handbook,
the Academic Catalogue,
the Student Handbook,
and other relevant Kalamazoo College publications.

Questions

the individual Program Descriptions available in the Center.
Program Admission and Availability
The final decision regarding admission to and participation
in specific study abroad programs rests with the Director
of the Center for International Programs and the host institution
abroad. The Director reserves the right to deny participation
in study abroad when, in the judgment of the Director, a student's
actions either on or off campus raise doubt that the student
is ready for an international experience and prepared to represent
Kalamazoo College appropriately. The Center for International
Programs reserves the right to change, withdraw, or suspend
at any time and without specific notice, programs, policies,
procedures, qualifications, fees and other conditions. Program
availability is subject to political, economic, and other
conditions, including minimum enrollments.
