    These 2 units must be from two different regions, or one region and one comparative course; 1 unit from Study Abroad may be used.
Cultures courses may be double or triple counted. They can be used to fulfill both Areas of Study and Cultures, Majors and Cultures, or all three. For example, if you are a Religion major, RELG 262 - Hinduism will fulfill the Philosophy/Religion AOS, a non-US Culture, and your Religion major.

REQUIREMENTS, GUIDELINES, AND LIMITATIONS

First-Year Writing Seminar: Satisfies writing proficiency only. Does not satisfy Area of Study, cultures, major, minor, or concentration requirements. 1 unit

Quantitative Reasoning: QRs falling within the Math/Computer Science/Natural Science fields may double count towards that Area of Study. QRs in the Social Sciences (ECON, ANSO 212) will not double count towards AOS. All may be used to satisfy a major, minor, or concentration requirement. 1 unit

Language: Proficiency through intermediate level (completion of 103 or 201 level) is required. Students who test into 202 or higher have completed the requirement. Students do not receive any credit for testing out of courses. 0-3 units

Cultures: May also satisfy area of study, major, minor, or concentration requirements. Transfer courses may not satisfy this requirement. 3 units
• 1 unit of US culture
• 1 unit of non-US culture (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East)
• 1 unit of non-US culture or comparative culture
One unit from study abroad may be used.

Humanities: May also satisfy major, minor, or concentration requirements. 3 units
• 1 unit of literature specified in the English department; in any foreign language department; or from the following classes: CLAS 210, CLAS 220, CLAS 230, CLAS 240, CLAS 255, CLAS 270, CHIN 235, GERM 135, JAPN 235, PHIL 213
• 1 unit of Creative Expression specified in the English department; in certain Theatre Arts, Fine Arts, or Music courses; or CHIN 215
• 1 unit of History, Art History, Music History, or Theatre History
Note: Classes through K’2008 are allowed to count History courses as a Social Science provided they do not also count a History class under Humanities. To complete the Humanities requirement, they must take a Lit, a CE, and a third, unspecified course in Art, English, Music, or Theatre.

Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computer Science: May also satisfy area of study, major, minor, or concentration requirements. 2 units
• 1 unit of Natural Science: any courses from BIOL (with the exception of BIOL 200), CHEM, and PHYS, and select IDSY courses
• 1 unit of Natural Science, Mathematics, or Computer Sciences

Philosophy and Religion: May also satisfy major, minor, or concentration requirements. Students may take one unit from each department or both units from the same department. 2 units

Social Science: May also satisfy major, minor, or concentration requirements. Includes units from at least two of the following departments: ANSO, ECON, EDUC, POLS, PSYC. Excludes ECON 210, EDUC 370, EDUC 594, EDUC 490, and ENVS 490. 3 units

Major: Eight to twelve units, specific requirements to be determined by department chair, and comprehensive exams. Department may also require a Senior Individualized Project in the subject. 8-12 units

Senior Individualized Project: Minimum of 1 unit required to graduate. 1-2 units

Physical Education: Any 1 activity may be counted up to 2 times. You cannot fulfill requirement taking different skill levels of the same sport. Intercollegiate team sports may be counted as many times as they are successfully completed. 1 unit

Liberal Arts Colloquium Credit (LACC): 25 approved activities must be attended. The final activities must be completed by the end of 8th week of Spring quarter of the year you intend to graduate. 1 unit

Required: minimum 36 academic (not including PE or LACC) units, 24 at C- or better. 2.00 cumulative GPA or higher.
