| The
New Curriculum
The new Kalamazoo Curriculum will be implemented this coming fall. Continuing
students may stay with our present set of general education requirements
or choose the new, more flexible curriculum, depending on which path works
best for you.
In the new curriculum students will still be required to complete a major,
establish proficiency in a foreign language, do a senior individualized
project, and take five physical education activities. In addition, students
will take a set of "shared passage" seminars in the first, sophomore, and
senior years. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will be able to take one of
the new sophomore seminars being created or substitute two cultures courses
for it. Faculty are identifying short-term alternatives for the senior seminars
in disciplines where such courses do not already exist. Finally, students
will be able to choose a wide variety of courses outside the major that
will help develop interests and explore new terrain.
Continuing students who want to go with the new K-Curriculum must attend
a New Curriculum Workshop to learn about the new requirements and begin
planning. (You are also welcome to attend if you are simply curious.) If
you choose the new curriculum, you will need to file your plan at least
two terms before graduation. We will begin this process at the workshop,
and you can follow up with your academic advisor.
