The visual arts at Kalamazoo College combine the creative aspects of making art and the study of art history into a single integrated department of professionally active faculty who will help you achieve your goals as a maker or scholar of art.
The art history program introduces students to a wide range of artistic objects, examining the historical periods and cultural circumstances that influenced their production. The studio curriculum exposes students to current approaches to art making through a medium based program focused on skill development and critical thinking. Both curricula feature individualized attention, well-equipped studios, service-learning opportunities, off-campus programs, and visiting artists.
We encourage you to include an Arts Supplement with your application. These materials can have a positive impact on your admission decision, as well as your merit scholarship. They will never count against you, and you are not required to major or minor in Visual Arts in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
To submit an Arts Supplement, please submit the following materials online through SlideRoom:
- An art résumé describing high school course work, continuing education courses, college-level courses, and other related artistic achievements.
- Portfolio of your work
- Image List ~ titles and specifications of images/pieces
Materials will be reviewed by faculty as part of the admission process. Please contact Marguerite McClain at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
