Perhaps I’m crazy, but…

Perhaps I’m crazy, but I still get extremely excited about speaking and interacting in French even though that’s been the reality of everyday life for the past almost 7 months.

How cool is it to give out-of-towners directions to the city’s sites in your best French accent?

How cool is it to go to a wine tasting event and talk to the vendors about the nuances of flavors from different regions?

How cool is it to meet a friend of a friend for a coffee and interview him for 45 minutes about GMOs and how they’re perceived in France?

How cool is it to feel like you’ve become buds with the sandwich shop owners around the corner?

How cool is it to get asked if you’re from France?!?!?!

How cool is it be in a plane, hear an announcement in English then in French, and ask yourself, annoyed, “Why did they say the exact same thing twice?”, only to later realize that the announcement had been made in two different languages and you weren’t initially aware of it because you understood both of them equally well.

How cool is it to easily joke around with people, who several months ago, made you feel like your brain would explode if you were to concentrate enough to get the slightest essence of what they were saying?

I’d say it’s actually pretty cool quand même.
