Shannon Milan is more than thrilled to be back at Kalamazoo College, her alma mater, working as an admissions counselor. As a recent graduate (16’) her journey to K has been anything but typical. Having taken on the personal mantra of ‘taking the road less traveled’ Shannon returned to fulfill her life long dream of graduating from college a few years later than most, all while running a small business and making time for family and friends. After graduating from K she continued her educational journey at Grand Valley State University where she earned a masters and a specialist degree in school psychology. Shannon is a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo where she lives with her husband and their golden retriever.
Hometown: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Favorite food: Seafood
Favorite question from a prospective student: When a student asks “what are the prerequisites I will have to take the first couple of years?” This gives me a great opportunity to talk about K’s open curriculum.
When you visit Kalamazoo, you must….take your time to explore downtown and visit the many locally owned shops.
Favorite college memory: Presenting my senior individualized project at the Van Liere symposium.
Advice for prospective students: Going through the process of finding the college that will be the best fit for you is a great time to take the lead in designing the next chapter of your life. However, this process does not have to be a solitary experience. Always remember that you have a team around you. Whether this team consists of family members, coaches, teachers, neighbors, or counselors they are more than willing to help guide you along the way!
