Jacob Elliott hails originally from the suburbs of Sacramento, CA. After vowing to escape the heat, the lack of seasons, and the repetitiveness of the California suburbs, he found himself—on a whim—attending Knox College in small town Galesburg, IL where he graduated with a BA in Creative Writing and a minor in History. Since then, his passion for the Midwest as well as the power of a liberal arts education has only grown, and that passion (along with the desire to live in a bigger city) has led him to Kalamazoo. And he hasn’t looked back! An avid list-maker, fantasy nerd, and reality competition show enthusiast, Jacob loves all things story related and could spend hours daydreaming up realities still yet to occur.
Hometown: Granite Bay, CA
Favorite Food: Sushi. But…fun fact, I am allergic to seafood.
When you visit Kalamazoo, you must: Come on a Friday during the summer and head downtown to the food trucks that gather there! Great food, live music, and a killer atmosphere!
Favorite question from a prospective student: Why did you come all the way out here from California? It lets me tell the student who may be from out of state how amazing the Midwest can be if you let it.
Favorite College Memory: My initiation day into my fraternity. Whether a greek organization, a club on campus, or simply a close knit group of friends, I think the day you feel truly accepted for you who are is always the best.
Advice for prospective students: Be you! I want to get to know who YOU are, not who you think we want you to be. Because I don’t want anything from you other than exactly who you truly are.
