Thinking Peace Corps? Think K!
Kalamazoo College ranks eighth in the country in the category of small colleges and universities in terms of the number of alumni who volunteered for the Peace Corps in 2005. That number, 21 individuals, makes Kalamazoo College the number one school in the country per capita last year for the recruitment of Peace Corps volunteers. These rankings were tabulated by the Peace Corps and announced on January 30.
"The willingness of so many people to use their degrees and life experiences to share with other cultures is a commitment no one should overlook," said Gaddi. H. Vasquez, director of the Peace Corps.
"This news clearly speaks well of the nature of our students' interests," said Richard Berman, dean of experiential education at Kalamazoo College, "and also to the achievements of our faculty, the global work of colleagues in the College's Center for International Programs, and, in particular, the work of Pam Sotherland and Lori Young in the Center for Career Development. Over the years, both have cultivated effective practices and relationships with the Peace Corps staff."
